Sant Guru Ghasidas Govt. Post Graduate College Kurud is one of the two P.G. Colleges located in Dhamtari district of Chhattisgarh State. It is located in Kurud town, a semi-urban area of the district, at the distance of 26 kms from the district headquarter towards Raipur city (the capital of the state) on the National Highway 30. The college is located in midtown, which has a Nagar Panchayat and Tahsil Head Quarter along with a Community Health Centre.
The college has been established by the state government on Nov1984 and upgraded as P.G. College on June 2006. It is a multi-faculty college where Arts, Science and Commerce streams are being taught to the students most belonging to the catchment area of Kurud Tehsil in Dhamtari Distt., The College is working under the jurisdiction of Pandit Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur and has been affiliated to the University since its establishment. So far as the affiliation is concerned the institution has obtained UGC affiliation under section 2F from 25 Jul 1989 and under 12 B from 07 Feb 1992.
At present Fourteen P.G. departments and Three U.G. department are running. The college has its own campus of 15 Acres. The performance of the college has been significant enough in the region because the Govt. provides adequate facilities through the budget allocation for the academic welfare of the students. The institution has an NSS unit since 1985 and an NCC unit since 2008. In the institution Bachelor of Physical Education (Semester System 2 Bachelor of physical Education (Semester System 2Year), B.Sc. Biotechnology, Microbiology and Computer Science as professional course is running. With various extra-curricular activities the academic calendar is strictly adhered in the institution as per University rules and regulations. The goals and objectives of the institution are to uplift the spirit of academic and career-oriented qualities among the student of the region. For the last five years, the college has attended brighter significance in the realm of teaching, non-teaching and academic performance. Under the generous administration and academic leadership of the Head Dr. Dinesh Kumar Rathore the institution is endeavouring to achieve the aim of qualitative education.
Some Faculty too are the members of the Board of studies in their respective subjects in the University and the acting head of their departments. Many of them are M.Phil / Ph.D. holders. They encourage research aptitude and spirit of learning. The students too stand on the merit list of the University. About half dozen participated in the state level extra-curricular competition.
The motto of the institution is Vidya DadatiVinayam means Knowledge gives Humbleness. It is a matter of pride that the college has been conferred the name of Guru GhasiDas who was a spiritual personality and well-known for spreading the light of knowledge.
